ABOUT THE SHOW

The show starts at 5 a.m., but I don't really wake up until after the second cup of coffee. Tony Wike covers the news you need to know every 30 minutes. I've got the sports page. Timesaver Traffic updates are every 15 minutes during rush hour. In the meantime, we play a lot of really good country music and try to find something to smile about to start the day!

STUFF ABOUT ME

The upstate is pretty much home. I wasn't born here, but the family moved to Greenville 40 years ago when Dad took a job in the textile business. Went to J. L. Mann High, then saw my daughter graduate from the same school. I started in the radio business after one semester of college, which I found out was too hard. (College, not this!) I was lucky to get started here at WESC 30 years ago, and haven't found anything else I really wanted to do more. And I like the things we have on WESC ... I do like country music, I do like racing, I just don't like getting up at 3 am.

I offered a few suggestions for weekend fun this morning on WESC, if you’re looking for a good time this weekend, here they are!

Belton’s Standpipe Festival is 10 – 10 Saturday on Main Street. Mule drawn wagon rides, lots of food and music, and you’ll learn what a standpipe is! www.beltonsc.com

Oktoberfest, noon - 10 in Downtown Greer. German food and beer, artists and dancing, and you don’t even have to wear lederhosen! www.greeroktoberfest.com

Denver Downs Farm. Corn maze, pumpkin patch, farm tours and hay rides to name a few things. Your kids will love it! www.denverdownsfarm.com

Textile Heritage Weekend, Upcountry History Museum. downtown Greenville. This years theme is Railroad Ties to the textile industry. Several excellent exhibits about the industry that built our area. Starts at 10 Saturday with performance by the Greenville Textile Heritage Band, they’re excellent. www.upcountryhistory.com
