The upstate is pretty much home. I wasn't born here, but the family moved to Greenville 40 years ago when Dad took a job in the textile business. Went to J. L. Mann High, then saw my daughter graduate from the same school. I started in the radio business after one semester of college, which I found out was too hard. (College, not this!) I was lucky to get started here at WESC 30 years ago, and haven't found anything else I really wanted to do more. And I like the things we have on WESC ... I do like country music, I do like racing, I just don't like getting up at 3 am.
Atlanta Braves catcher Evan Gattis is off to a fine start in his rookie season in the majors, he's hit 6 home runs and has 16 rbi's already. Gattis was what they call a "can't miss" player in high school, but the trip to big league stardom had several turns, including thoughts of suicide and a trip to a mental hospital. MASH RIGHT HERE to read his astonishing story.
